Midcoast Health Care Reform Needs You! (from -- published on September 26, 2008)

From www.MidcoastHealthCareReform.org.

A Maine organization, Midcoast Health Care Reform, who's members include every-day concerned citizens, doctors, nurses, healthcare professionals, professors, small business owners and union members needs your help to gather the remaining signatures needed for a State of Maine citizen initiative that says, "the citizens of Maine respectfully request that the United States Congress enact and the President of the United States sign legislation that is substantially similar to Rep. John Conyer, Jr's bill, H.R. 676, Expanded and Improved Medicare for All."

H.R. 676 essentially would (1) provide expanded and improved Medicare benefits to everyone from birth to death, (2) have healthcare providers (i.e. doctors and hospitals) continue to operate privately and compete for your business, (3) allow everyone to select any provider they wished, (4) be funded by a modest increase to the percentage of the current Medicare payroll deduction, and (5) eliminate all health insurance premiums, deductibles, and co-pays.

Regardless of who wins the election in November, changes will be made to the United States healthcare system. Only through this citizen initiative can we Mainers make our collective voices heard by our elected officials.

More specifically, we need concerned citizens to set up a table on November 4 (election day) at their voting station to help gather the 54,000 remaining signatures needed to send this citizen initiative to the Maine State Legislature by January 1, 2009. During the June 10, 2008 primary we gathered signatures at a few selected voting stations and were able to obtain a total of 1,300 signatures, an average of 32% of that day's voters. That means that we now need to have 185 voting stations covered with 2 to 6 people each.

We need you !

to volunteer and to contact as many people as you can to have them volunteer to work at or organize their voting station.
