    THE PETITION

    Whereas: We spend over $2 trillion for healthcare in the US, yet 50 million are still not covered and another 50 million are being denied care by their insurance companies;

    Whereas: Whereas the healthcare coverage in the United States is ranked #37 in the world by the World Health Organization and yet we spend almost twice as much as any other country, enough to cover everybody with excellent comprehensive healthcare;

    Whereas: A bill has been proposed in Congress, HR-676, non-profit Medicare for All, that outlines a national health care program that will provide guaranteed choice, quality affordable health care and prescription drugs to everyone in the country;

    Whereas: Over 15,000 doctors have signed on in favor of this plan, including two former U.S. Surgeons General;

    Whereas: Under this proposed plan, we can pay for a comprehensive national health care program with the same money we are now spending by removing insurance companies -- and cover every single person in the United States;

    And Whereas: The bill provides money for retraining and giving priority to those whose jobs as administrators in the insurance industry would be lost as a result of this shift;

    Be it Resolved That: We call on our members of Congress to pass HR 676, non-profit Medicare for All, so our people and our nation can have the excellent health care system we deserve. Health care is a human right, and we call on our members of Congress to recognize that right.

    I'll be asking each of my members of Congress how they will be voting and then I will then let them know if I will be supporting them in the future. We will continue to replace each and every one of you until you start doing what your constituents want/demand/deserve. You work for us (not the insurance companies, not the corporations, not the medical associations, not the pharmaceutical companies) ... regognize this fact and we might keep you on; otherwise, YOU'RE FIRED!

    Please, please, everybody print out this petition and carry it with you to talk with people about how we can get a national healthcare system SOON if we keep working together. Send the petitions to Healthcare-NOW or send them directly to your member of Congress. Either way, as you can see in the news, they are making a difference! Congress is beginning to pay attention.

    I want you to pass HR 676 and/or put a single payer universal health care system in place ASAP. I am tired of being lied to and told a good universal health care system would be bad for us as in long lines, etc. It is bad the way it is now, for those who have insurance as well as for those who do not.

    It is our responsibility to pass HR 676. This is long overdue.

    I am now in over $10K in debt due to doctor bills. Thankfully, I have some insurance. Otherwise it would be somewhere near $50K. Unfortunately, due to my debt, I am about to lose my car and may end up having to downsize where I live. I just watched SICKO tonight and sobbed as I heard other people's stories that are way worse than mine. I've decided that even though I am sick, I am going to fight for universal healthcare in this country. It should be a basic right. Even if what I have kills me; hopefully, part of my legacy will be that people won't have to worry about paying for medical bills when they should be focused on getting well. Thanks for giving me a place to vent!

    It's time for a health care revolution in this country. We are the wealthiest nation on the planet and yet we still have people dying because they don't have healthcare. We spend 2x as much as the second most expensive nation in the world on healthcare, yet we are ranked #38 by the World Health Organization. Why? healthcare in America is embarrasing. the richest and most powerful country in the world has the worst healthcare system ever. it's all about making money not caring and curing people.look at little Natalie who diied in Glendale california yesterday cause CINGA denied her liver transplant . what a shame ehat a shame YOU CAN'T MAKE MONEY OFF OF POOR PEOPLE GETTING SICK!!!!!

    I'm a RN and am saddened every day to see so many people hit with the hardship of healthcare costs. There are so many that have to choose to refuse healthcare because the financial hardship a hospital stay would cause them is just too great. Thank you to everyone who has worked to put this bill together. It's time to make a change.
    Cheri PadillaCA
    I work as a biller in private practice for a pulmonary specialist. It saddens me to even keep doing my own job when I see that although our bills are meager in comparison to the local hospital, it just doesnt feel good to see that poeple have to file for bankruptcy for medical bills. Generally speaking most people are in a health crisis...cant work and have HUGE medical bills. I feel that everyone should be covered no matter what the income range. I its a travesty when a prisoner in the California Department of Corrections can get (albeit it takes a long time for them to get to us) has healthcare coverage but my neighbors who work hard dont have insurance or those that have been hit by medical issues have to file for bankruptcy. It is a sorry system that needs change. Our country is pathetic to let this continue. How crazy would it be to have American's pitch in to a healthcare program. Every American who has some income as low as $1 or 0 if you have no income. I work a part time, have a husband with cancer and two children on disability. I am willing to pay a reasonable sum to see that my family has insurance. Most Americans would...a health care plan should not be for just the poor (which I am considered myself), Rich, encarcarated. It should be for everyone.

    I'm from the small Central American country of Costa Rica. There we have a universal health care coverage where no one will ever be turned away from being treated for any ailment. I've been a US resident for many years and am now a US citizen. It amazes and saddens me that our great country has become so greedy that it's more important for companies to earn millions than to take care of it's own people when they get sick. I sincerely urge our Congress and all governmental leaders to listen to the people and support HR676 wholeheartedly. Our healthcare is a disgrace to our country, and a laughing stock to the world. All terrorist nations that want to hurt the US must be praying we'll keep our current system so we will systematically kill ourselves off and save them the work. Sincerely, Ileana Peterson

    If you have seen the movie "Sicko", you will see that we need a health care system just like Europe has. Europe has a great thing going over there!

    I want every citizen of this country U.S.A. to be able to walk into any hospital, clinic, doctors office, dentist office or optomitrist office and not fear the outragous cost of going deeply into debt. Just for an eye exam and glasses it's $400.aprox. Yes I am for national health care, but I don't want our out of control spending politians running the operation. We need dependable and reliable people in control of the finances. I pray this happens soon. Also I am for reform in the work force. Better benifits like 5 week vacations, unlimited sick days, and better working conditions. Employees as of now have no rights. I know because I was fired because I had a doctor's appt. my employer would not approve. Unemployment office told me I should have gone to the emergency room which would have cost me dearly. Some system we have! Needless to say I was denied benifits. Thank you for speaking up for us. Can I help. I don't have money but I do have time.

    Being a Vietnam Era Vet with 21 years of military service behind me I already have Tricare Prime which does help but it is not free. I pay a quarterly premium for Tricare Prime. Back in 1968 when I joined the Air Force we were promised free health and dental care for the rest of our lives once we completed a 20 year military career; we all know that we were lied to in this regard. To whom it may concern: Please give every citizen of this country a health care program that covers all of their needs similar if not the same as our congresional and senatorial delegates have at their disposal.
    Amy GriffinGA
    There is no reason for the richest nation in the world to have substandard health care. There is no reason (other than greed) for people in our country to die of preventable causes. I pray that there is something done soon.
    Jodi JenkinsKY
    I believe strongly in preventive health care, and think that single payer healthcare is the best way to do this in the United States. Over the last four years, through a series of layoffs, I have chronically been without insurance. Therefore, when I get really sick, I have to go to an Emergency Room where the cost is just passed on to other healthcare consumers and taxpayers. This makes no sense to me -- it seems like a backwards and inefficient way of handling things.
    Rebecca JaroshPA
    I believe in a national Health Insurance modeled after a system like Canada. It is pitiful that there are young people that cannot receive the care they need because of not having insurance.

    It is criminal that our fellow citizens are being treated the way that they are for the singular purpose of corporate greed. How many Americans have to die in order to further the insurance company's and HMO's agenda. This is our country, "we the people", not "we the rich and powerful", the current system is not working for "us", but it is sure working for them!

    I support HR 676. I also believe that insurance companies need to be held criminally liable for any deaths that are the result of inaduaqte insurance. When watching Micheal Moore's movie Sicko I was strongly affected by the woman who lost her daughter because she took her to the wrong hospital. Someone should be in jail for that crime. Like many coworkers, retirement is problematic if even possible due to the need for insurance coverage and the loopholes that would result in catastrophic costs due to illness. It is time that we as a nation stop the insanity. No one should profit from the illness of others. Our nation should be leading the world in preventative health - health care should not depend on a persons income!!! The forefathers of our country would be ashamed of what has been created - if our leaders are such god fearing individuals; it is time they look at their own mortality and begin to fear the outcome of what they created....as I would not want to have to answer for what they have done on this earth!!! Health care needs to be available to everyone in this country - this is what our tax money should be going towards - stop the killing of innocent people now -

    As a self-employed, healthy, childless, single woman in my early 50s, I am burdened with 18% annual increases in my individual health insurance that pay for little but fattening Anthem's bottom line. If Anthem isn't stopped, in one more year, my insurance premium will exceed my mortgage payment. NO ONE should be compelled to sacrifice more than 30% of their income to an insurer who then refuses to cover most basic preventive care, throwing this additional financial burden back onto the so-called "insured." The U.S. healthcare system is SICK, and private insurance is the DISEASE. It must be cured before greedy insurers make our economy implode.

    I am a GM employee who was hurt on the job. I have had two surguries with no good results. I went to Detroit Sports Med. In Troy Michigan to see a specialist for my injury. I was informed that I needed a surgery to get 80% use of my arm. GM has done all they can to not pay for this surgery to get me back to 80% or more. Its been 4 hard years for me. So not only is the health care system messed up but it goes even farther. We dont get the help we need when hurt on the job. My surgen (God Bless Him) Has had to fight for me to get GM to pay for this surgery. We need to stand together on health care in this country.. Thank you to Michael Moore for bringing health care issues that face this country to the front lines. If we dont all act now we will all suffer even more later. I am being affected by a reduction of force where I work (largest private employeer in Oregon). I am being forced into unemployment because my son is a brain-tumor survivor and their health insurance (Kaiser) of an employeer I was offered a position with already insicated they would deny his participation in a St Jude Children's Research Hospital RT-1 Protocol Brain-Tumor study he has been in for the last 7 years. In 2005, while living in California, I was elated to discover that we were expecting our second child. We did not have maternity insurance so we prepared ourselves for the $17,000. out of pocket cost for a normal delivery and the $35,000. out of pocket cost for a c-section (in California). When I was 6 months in to my pregnancy my husband was offered a salaried postion, WITH BENEFITS, at Kaiser Permanente in Northern California. He took it along with a huge pay cut just so we would have the benefits. On March 5, 2006, I gave birth to a stillborn beautiful full-term Baby girl. Our Daughter died because Kaiser witheld care in order to maximize profit. The night before our Baby died, I was sent home, with troubling symptoms, and told not to come back unless I was bleeding or my water broke. My baby died shortly thereafter. I was post term, 40 yrs. of age and no one bothered to run additional tests to make sure our Baby was OK. They could have saved our Daughters life with a timely c-section but NO, that was too costly. Not to mention the critical medical records that were "lost" after our Daughters death. I am now suing Kaiser. Must lives continue to be lost so that profit can be made???? This is digusting, appalling, immoral, inhumane and HEARTBREAKING. Quality, Universal heathcare is needed now.

    I strongly believe that our current health care program is a complete failure. My husband works for FedEx. However, FedEx does not provide health benefits and we cannot afford to buy our own. I'm constantly afraid of one of us getting sick or injured because there is no way we could afford to go to the doctor or hospital. This is no way to live. We shouldn't be afraid of getting treatment for our health. We should be able to get help whenever we need it. We are one of the richest nation in the world yet we cannot pay for medical treatment for our citizen. It makes no sense.

    Just saw the movie. Am appalled, but not surprised having lived in The Netherlands for 25 years and now 25 years here. We should be ashamed of ourselves. Unfortunately, because of the size of this country, it's vast population, the $$ and special interests involved, and our politicians unwillingness to act on behalf of their constituents (etcetera), change will be VERY slow. I have been diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure as a result of an E.R. visit and was admitted even when I told them that I had no insurance nor had I been able to see a Dr.because no one would see me without insurance.I have multiple other health problems that in the past 3 years have got progressively worse.It makes things even worse knowing that I can get no help,I can't see a Dr.which means I can't get prescriptions for my heart medicine,no medicine means my conditions are left untreated which could lead to my early exit which causes me to stress.It's a lose-lose situation.I have worked since age 16 and have paid in for medicaid,ssi,etc.and I can't get any help from either one,as most everyone else could attest to.Something needs to be done and if signing this will help then I'm all in.

    Our small company (25 Employees) went to a high deductable HSA health plan which means I have to pay a$3000.00 deductable before my insurance pays anything. I am a divorced father with two boys (18 yrs & 17 yrs old), I have monthly bills to pay that constantly increase as my income does not. With that said, this country needs to change and health care should be the first thing. We are supposedly the richest nation in the world yet people are starving, lossing their homes, and dying because they have no health insurance...this is just wrong. We can do better. For everyone opposed to free healthcare....It is a human right to have health care. What makes you think it is ok to deny me a healthy future just because I can't afford to eat, pay my bills, & go to the doctor? Also, cobra for gap coverage after I left my last job was $1100/mo. this is insane. I am lucky to be able to afford what I am, but after watching SickO, i get what Michael is trying to say about keeping the people poor or in debt. This is sooooo! frustrating. An extra $500-$600/mo in my the bank would allow my to afford a more comfortable life for my family. I hope his vision for healthcare will become a reality some day! It sickens me every time I think of the status of the health care system in the US. Let's look at the facts: 1. The pharmaceutical companies bring life saving and life changing medicines to the table. 2. The physicians bring their medical training and expertise to the table and prescribe the medicines needed to improve our health and save lives. 3. What do the insurance companies bring to the table? Absolutely nothing! They are simply a profit center for greed! NO FOR PROFIT ORGANIZATION SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT TO DECIDE WHAT MEDICAL CARE I CAN GET! THEIR BOTTOM LINE KILLS PEOPLE! It is shameful for this country to be in such a sad state of health care such that lobbyists and big business decide what medicine I can get. The right to FREE healthcare should be added to the "Bill of Rights"! "WE THE PEOPLE" must be heard!

    50 million American citizens without any healthcare insurance and yet our own Secretary of State can offer $555 million to the Palestinian State in aid. We are a Country that just throws money at other problems around the world instead of taking care of its own people first. It's unbelieveable that a government such as ours, who boasts about being the richest and most prosperous country in the world, would have to think more than 5 minutes about whether this was the smart and MORAL way to go with healthcare reform. You may think that "We The People", who you swore to serve, are idiots. We are not. The people of this country have given up on voting for the best candidate, and have settled for voting for the lesser of two evils. Sometimes we get it right. Sometimes we fall for all the BS and fairytales and get it wrong. But there's a new day coming. A day when we will collectively say that enough is enough, and we're not going to settle anymore. And on that day, the people of this country will stand up and be counted. The people of this country will be a force to be reckoned with. The people of this country will once again know the meaning of "Of The People, By The People, and For The People", and once again, our elected officials will be the servents to the masses.

    I just want to say that this may not be the best option for this country, but I sure am liking the looks of it. It sure is a lot better than what we got now. I'm on medicaid, Hoosier Healthwise, and even though everything is free to me and I haven't encountered serious problems, I have encountered a few. I suffer from depression and the only medication that helps me, Medicaid refuses to give me, because there is a generic. The generic does nothing for me, but give me headaches and makes my depression worse. For the past year and a half, I have been battling depression, almost to the point where I can't function, I've dropped out of college because of this because I couldn't concentrate on my studies. My friend has a daughter that was born with all kinds of problems, and was born being on Hoosier Healthwise, and it was almost like once her daughter hit that million-dollar mark, they started refusing medicines for the little girl. If it wasn't for the generosity of a pharmacist just giving her daughter the medicine, because he knew she needed it, her daughter would be doing a lot of unnecessary suffering.

    I am 24 and a mother of 1. I am married to a great guy that loves our little family. He works his butt off for a company here in our little town that won't give him a raise for the hard, physically exhausting labor he does. He gets limited healthcare insurance at his job. I, myself, am not able to get on his plan because it would cost us over 100 dollars a week out of his paycheck to get me insured. We would love to get me health insurance, but we just can't afford it. We have to pay all these other bills before we can even think about getting healthcare, including my husband because the deductibles are so much. Luckily, my son has medicaid, but we don't know how long that will last. Dont get me wrong, I'm thankful that my son can at least get medicaid. I've tried applying for medicaid several times, but am not eligible. I've tried getting countless jobs so that I could get health insurance, but with us having a child under 3, we would have to spend my whole paycheck just on daycare alone, and we don't qualify for any assistance with daycare. I have severe depression and some other ailments that could develop into something life threatening, but cannot afford the bills and such to get them treated. So I'm basically in a no-win situation much like other americans. I've tried getting SSI, SSD, everything, but am not eligible because I haven't paid enough to the government to deserve it. So, I hope that one day we can all pull together and make this a better country for the unfortunate people, as well as everyone else who can't get the healthcare they deserve, which affects every aspect of their life.

    The fact that thousands die while insurance companies get STUPID rich is beyond belief. Don't get me wrong, I believe it happens everyday. What is worse is all Americans, including myself are either to brainwashed by the right wing "Vote Yourself Rich System", or just to damn lazy to stand up and say there needs to be a massive health care overhaul in this country. When hospitals will actually kick sick and dying people out because they cant pay, there might just be something wrong. I worked for four years for a Navy contractor that made millions of dollars a year and they wouldn't give us health insurance. My wife joined the military just so we could get some insurance, and I don't care what people tell you military insurance for the family is not free, like the recruiter like to tell you. Health care needs to be free for everybody, and it needs to be GOOD health coverage. Not like hanging out at the DMV all day. My son has a chronic brain disorder which has caused him to be redlined out of every public and private health insurance there is. College educated, working, and otherwise healthy, he has been thrown out of society because he has an expensive chronic illness. I can't bear to lose him to the streets, so I have become his sole caregiver, with the expected consequences to my own health and productivity. In the year since I've relocated to Vermont, I've met some of the most hardworking, dedicated, die-hard "Americans" one will ever meet. These are the folks who work three jobs to feed their families - the same families they send overseas to fight a non-existent war against an unseen enemy, and then be discarded in their time of need. I was never more sheltered than when I lived in the city...who knew I had to move to the rural community of Arlington, VT - the home of Norman Rockwell and the painting, "The Four Freedoms" - to understand the plight of the "true" working man. Michael Moore, please bring your tour to Vermont. I think you'll find a citizenship who's ready and willing to hear what you have to say and more than willing to act upon it. Amy Patricia Meade
