    THE PETITION

    Whereas: We spend over $2 trillion for healthcare in the US, yet 50 million are still not covered and another 50 million are being denied care by their insurance companies;

    Whereas: Whereas the healthcare coverage in the United States is ranked #37 in the world by the World Health Organization and yet we spend almost twice as much as any other country, enough to cover everybody with excellent comprehensive healthcare;

    Whereas: A bill has been proposed in Congress, HR-676, non-profit Medicare for All, that outlines a national health care program that will provide guaranteed choice, quality affordable health care and prescription drugs to everyone in the country;

    Whereas: Over 15,000 doctors have signed on in favor of this plan, including two former U.S. Surgeons General;

    Whereas: Under this proposed plan, we can pay for a comprehensive national health care program with the same money we are now spending by removing insurance companies -- and cover every single person in the United States;

    And Whereas: The bill provides money for retraining and giving priority to those whose jobs as administrators in the insurance industry would be lost as a result of this shift;

    Be it Resolved That: We call on our members of Congress to pass HR 676, non-profit Medicare for All, so our people and our nation can have the excellent health care system we deserve. Health care is a human right, and we call on our members of Congress to recognize that right.

    To put all 303,800,000 in one risk pool--the healthyan dthe sick, the old and the young, all ethnicities and "races"--is simple common sense. The larger the risk pool, the lower the cost--and taking out the obligation of private companies to make a profit just allows more money to go into actual health care. Please check out the Physicians for a National Health Program (www.pnhp.org) for a look at the current broken system from inside.

    Fix the health care and please, there must be someone who can take on insurance companys in this country. I cannot get my head around the politics behind the lack of common sense.

    I've always worried about the people out there with no coverage but I thought my husband and I were safe because we do. He is about to start receiving treatment for Hepatitis C and I'm scared to death him having insurance is not going to be enough. We live paycheck to paycheck as it is. What a relief it would be to not have to worry about our health bankrupting us. e

    As a therapist for the homeless I see countless ways every day where people are unable to receive adequate health care, or the system is so woefully disorganized that those who qualify for medicare or medicaid are unable to receive it for months and months. I have a client who is fully qualified to receive medicaid yet his award has been delayed for a year now. As a consequence he has been unable to receive his shots for prostrate cancer. Where is the justice?

    Our health care system is a travesty. People are living in fear because of it, worrying themselves sick because of it, and losing productivity (calling insurance companies to fight over co-pays, deductibles, and what's in-network for endless hours) because of it. It is clear the system we have is utterly broken - healthcare should not be a for-profit business. When my husband lost his job a few years ago, the meds my son with autism needed went from $30 (a copay for a 3rd tier med) to $900 a MONTH when we lost our health insurance along with the job. We need healthcare for every person in the country. We need healthcare unhitched from employment. We need it NOW. It is clearly possible as the Europeans have single payer national healthcare systems for all...and they have better health and less expensive healthcare systems than we do. Let's GET THIS DONE!

    The fact that we give healthcare to all iraq citizens on our dollar & let folks in our own country die from lack of health care access is sickening. The tax payers are about to revolt, I don't even recognize the US any longer. I saw my sister, a mother of 3 children under 5 die because no doctor would see her because she could not get Blue cross to sell her a policy. She HAD MONEY but could not get help without insurance, Could not get ins. because she has a medical prob. MAYBE if they stopped all the damn viagra commercials, they could make health ins affordable and accessable for all.

    The actual healthcare system under the dictatotship and CRIMINAL GREED of the multi billionaire health insurance companies is a DISGRACE. USA is on the 37th place in the world in healthcare - what a shame! Humana, for exemple, states out in their web site that NOT EVERYBODY QUALIFIES FOR INDIVIDUAL HEALTHCARE INSURANCE - this statement is APARTHEID. Everybody MUST qualify for medical care. Visit the web site below and see how other countries, by far as rich and powerful as our country, have managed the healthcare for their populations T.R. Reid: "I'm grateful to everybody who watched our film and took part in this terrific discussion. Please let me shamelessly note that my book on this subject, "We're Number 37," will be published by Penguin Press early next year. Our health care system is overpriced and unfair. We could and should have the world's best and fairest system. Please keep working for fundamental change, so we can get there quickly." To watch the film Click on the link below. Enjoy! Health care should be a basic social rather than Wall Street traded issue. As such it should be government regulated. This is what we have government for. The United States is one of the most prosperous nations in the world. It would make sense for a nation such as ours to be able to care for all of its citizens. I believe passionately in an America that takes care of its people, and I feel we have not been living up to that ideal any longer. I believe this bill would take us a few steps closer to bringing the morale of this country back up and have people start believing that being an American is a great thing once more. And I know this bill will help those less fortunate not have to put a price on their very life, which no American should have to do. Thanks so much. I was moved by the Sicko movie. I am an employee to a non-profit Hospital and I see daily what happens to patients that have little or no coverage. It saddens me to bill patients for services their insurance companies should be paying. I'm lucky enough to be on the side of the patient fighting with their insurance company to make them pay. I get discouraged at times but I think the answer is to take the power away from the insurance companies and start being more proactive about helping these patients get their health back.

I have been denied medical, but i am still paying for it from my pay checks. I am so angrey, i diserve to get health care help. the servious or restraunt buiness does not offer health care insurance and plus i know that i should have invested in it but school and other things seemed to be more important at the time. I believe everyone needs to have a fair chance at getting medical. my story is long that is just a brief cap.

    I am fortunate now to have a job that provides adequate health care. Years ago, after the birth of my child, that was not the case. I was laid off from my job & lost benefits 1 week after my child was born. Unemployed, unable to afford infant immunizations or post-delivery care for myself I was so angered by the total dis-regard shown to us by the health care industry. After having worked steadily & faithfully paying my taxes for almost 20 years - I was repeatidly denied services by even the so-called "free" government programs. By the time my child was 4months old I had wiped out what little savings I had & could not afford formula to feed her. Even the pediatrician who was paid before my insurance ran out would not even "donate" a can of formula to help!! I ended up walking in a rain storm - carrying my 4month old infant - to the Salvation Army. They spent several hours making calls on my behalf until they were able to get a local merchant to donate 2 large cans of formula. I will ALWAYS be grateful to the Salvation Army for that - and will ALWAYS be against our current Health Care System - funded by, and for the benefit of ONLY pharmaseutical companys. Health care is a basic human right. Socialized Health Care might just bring humanity back.

    I quit college in my 3rd year in order to become a contractor in the Middle East to: pay off my extraordinary amount of college loan debt, and to obtain health insurance since I would be dropped from my parent's coverage at the age of 23 (the age until full-time students are covered). I also have a pre-existing condition of throat cancer (even though I had never smoked and do not drink heavily), which would make it impossible to pay for or even obtain afforable insurance. I support this bill whole-heartedly so that when I return from working in the Middle East, I can obtain health care at little or no cost (which I currently receive from the Kuwaiti government as a permanent resident).

    Two weeks ago in Texas a young, single mother of two was taken to the emergency room in agonizing pain. Pain so intense she couldn't speak or walk. Her mother went with her so there would be someone who could tell the doctors what was goin on. Once inside she was put into a wheelchair and brought over to the front desk so she could fill out her paper work. The first question the receptionist asked was 'do you have insurance' The answer was no, she did't and the hospital sent her away. Can you imagine being in agonizing pain and reaching out for help just to be denyed that help which you so despratly needed? Luckily this American girl has a Mexican mother who rushed her daughter to the nearest hospital across the border where they preformed emergency surgary to remove her gall bladder, which was exploding. After surgery they had to put in a colostomy bag, but because hospitals in Mexico tend to be under funded and under supplied they didn't have the necessary parts; instead of a bag they stuck a rubber glove on the end of the tube. Acouple of days later she came home, to the United States, with staples in her stomach, a colostomy glove, and her live thanks to Mexico. This is a crime. Denying someone much needed care because they may not be able to pay is like putting someone in prison because they may break the law. This American hospital issued this girl, my best friend, a death sentence because she had no insurance and, it seems, because she looked like she couldn't afford it. There are so many of us out there with out insurance because we just don't make enough to cover the necessities of life and huge insurance costs and this just makes me wonder, if a person doesn't make enough to hit that upper middle class catagory, how great is America really? Are our choices either to pay for life's basics and not health insurance or to pay for health insurance but not rent, food, gas....ect? The Constitution's preamble speaks of promoting the general welfare and its amendments promise Americans ' life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness'. There is no fine print in the constitution that states one must have proof of payment before obtaning the above mentioned. We have public education, why not public health care? I want to help you make a difference
    Donald KrueckOH
    The USA is the ONLY developed country without universal healthcare and it's long past time to remedy this. "Universal healthcare=communism" is nothing but capitalist propaganda designed to make the fatcats fatter. We all know that the United States is the only industrialized nation that has no national health care plan. Why can we not get beyond this philosophy that health care is a priviledge and not a right? Oh, I know, it's the insurance co's influence peddling of Congress and the current president as well as this year's candidates. The corporate owned media is also very cool to the idea of universal health insurance, and it shows in their slanted reporting It's up to us citizens to create the pressure to make it clear that politicians will pay a political price for their inaction. I'm afraid that is all they will understand.
    Christopher M. CarpenterVA
    I have been tortured for not having health care, when the United States, can spend billions of dollars on other countries, but can't spend it on its own citizens. I'm shocked. The utter hell that I have gone thru not having health insurance and you would be amazed at the people in the Washington, D.C., area that take a check from the Federal Government, as employees, but they would deny health care to some one who doesn't have it. I have a host of family members who fit this description. And my own mother even supports them morally and financialy when they don't appreciate it and when there own son goes with out health care. They are Republican

    Insurance is a good example of market forces working against the goal. Its most expensive for people that need it the most. For me, the only way to truly distribute the load is to have everyone contribute, and everybody covered. This can't be handled privately without complicated regulations and monitoring. The simplest solution is universal health care through the federal government.

    I just finished watching SICKO for the first time. It will not be the last. I am a bipolar 26-year-old female with additional anxiety and insomnia. I have no income besides General Assistance (GA - $261/mo to my landlord - currently family - and $58/mo to me) and Foodstamps ($165/mo). I am unemployed due to my mental instability despite my BA in Chemistry from Reed College in Portland, OR. Luckily, "San Mateo County Mental Health" provides me with free mental health care including free perscriptions due to my lack of income. I have applied for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and have been rejected. My first appeal was also rejected. I am in the process of obtaining an advocate for my second appeal. I furthermore have endomitriosis, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), bursitis, restless legs syndrome (RLS) and hypothyroidism. San Mateo County has a similar program (the "Well" or "Ace" program depending on who knows what) through San Mateo Medical Center for non-mental health-related illness, however their service is far less satisfactory. It took me over a year to obtain a General Practitioner, forcing me to visit the emergency room for every health concern (which really irritates the staff). Furthermore, it has taken over eight months for me to get an appointment with a gastrointerologist and I am still waiting for my referal to go through for physical therapy for my bursitis, which I have been pursuing now for nine months. My perscriptions are free again due to income level. In both systems, I have little to no choice in doctors. Most of them have been acceptable so far, some even great. All in all I consider myself very, very lucky which, in and of itself, is a sad thing for America's Health Care System. I am so grateful for San Mateo County. Who knows what would become of me if I lived in another county. Universal Health Care NOW!!!

    I'm Italian, and I live in a town with a great universitary hospital where everyone receive health-care payed with our taxes. They saved two my uncles this year with two operations, one uncle with one bypass at the abdomen and the other one with a bypass at the hearth. Those life-saving operations costed more than 50.000 dollars, but Italy, a little country paragonated to the US, payed and saved their life (as they saved lots of life paying their taxes during all their careers). I am on of the 50 million American without health insurance. I have paid my taxes, and worked many jobs over the past 27 years of adulthood. For seven of the past eight years, I have worked full-time and part-time jobs. Not one of them offered health insurance. Luckily I have been pretty health so far in life. I have been dealt a few blows over the years but have managed to pay for a couple of minor surgeries. This is an obscene situation. Congress people have federaly provided health insurance for life. Many of them are at least millionaires and could pay cash for an expensive operation. All people, not just rich people, in this country have a right to quality health care treatment.

    As we baby boomers age, it will become all the more critical for a major change in our health care system. Otherwise, we will have a national disaster on our hands. How are we going to pay for the inevitable epidemic of Alzheimer's and dementia related disease, where its victims often live for 10 years or more with this condition that requires 24 hour care? It will cause major financial hardships for our children, and in turn, affect the whole nation's economy.

    I am one of those millions of people with no health care and outrageous emergency bills. If I get sick or hurt I just self medicate the best that I can unless it is really bad then I try to find an emergency room that I don't already owe money to. I am running out of places to go. If my kids get sick I go without something (sometimes lunch at work for weeks at a time) in order to atleast get them antibiotics or again we search for a new emergency room. I shouldn't have to do this. It's not fair. It's inhumane. If America is the greatest nation in the world why do we think so little of our own people? How is that great? I cant afford to move to a better country, I cant even afford to go to the doctor. I can't give money as I have none, but I can give time, that I have. If you ever come to Dallas I can cook you a meal, wash a load of your clothes, share my living room, offer you a couch, or I can find you an emergency room, those things and can and do offer.

    Health care for all is not a social issue - it is a moral issue. Watching SiCKO for the second time last night, I cried over the way America treats its own citizens. I hate that I hate my country so much. I hate the amoral behavior that breeds in the board rooms of capitalism. I hate that we are a country who will get online to voice our outrages, but will not take to the streets, revolutionize, shut down the country until its moral spine is rebuilt. People are afraid of government controlled healthcare because it's socialist. Heaven forbid that we rise above the material demons of capitalism to embrace a world where all people are treated equally, cared for equally, and where the size of your paycheck dictates your expected lifespan. I cried when I saw the boats pull out of Miami harbor with sick 9/11 rescue workers heading to Gitmo because the health care terrorists receive is better than those who risked their lives to save others. That makes me sick. What makes me enraged is that we accept it. We praise the film, tell our friends and family to watch it, but we fill out forms online rather than taking to the streets, leaving our offices, demanding change. People die in revolutions, but will it amount to the 18,000 who die every year because of capitalistic healthcare? Probably not. But we will continue to live in fear of standing up, for fear that we may die. We're willing to die for the rights of people all over the world - except our own. If you can find the money to fight a war, you can find the money to care for your citizens.

    I strongly support the "One Payer Health Care" system that will provide ALL Americans access to quality health care. Currently, if a person becomes chronically ill, the average person is financially devastated. The insurance dictates what procedures is covered, what portion they will pay, what is not covered, the portion you will owe for treatment, what medications you are allowed, and then raise your insurance premiums so insurance becomes unaffordable for the individual. Culmination of factors leading to financial devastation. Some with good health and financial security may one day suffer a grave illness, and need a caring loving heart to help him/her through. No man is an island to itself, we are all linked...we help one another and assit each other and our human society. Dear Legislators and Members of Congress: Lets pass bill HR-676 and help your fellow man/woman. You might be helping your Grandmother, your child, your neighbor, your friend. The good and assistance you help create for others, so it will be acknowledged and return to you in many blessings. By passing bill HR-676 you help raise the consciousness of the legislative body as life is a circle, make this a good choice for your fellow man.

    I believe that some things should be sold for profit. Coffee, donuts, and car parts to name a few but not health care! How can you put a price on someone's life? When a corporate executive denies a claim to make the company bottom line bigger...Is that not playing god? Don't these companies see that charging people for health care discourages them from getting care? I for one will not go to the Dr's unless I am wheeled in. I'm retired at age 63. My employer did not provide health insurance. I can't get insurance from private insurance, I don't qualify for MN Dept. of Human Services health insurance. I do qualify for high risk Minnesota health insurance. $5,000 deductible and I also pay 20 per cent. Anyway, can't afford the premiums, and if I could, that 20 per cent would be impossible to pay. The healthcare system in the United States is deeply disturbing. Doctors getting paid bonuses based on how many medical treatments are denied? Citizens being denied healthcare because they're too young and shouldn't have gotten a particular disease? Its disgusting to see just how greedy the healthcare system and our government is when it comes to the almighty dollar. The healthcare system in this country is a disaster. Not only are 45 - 50 million without health insurance, but also countless millions are 'covered' under inferior plans by insurance companies who don't care about anyones' health, but only the enormous profits from premiums they collect while managing to think of ways to pay as few claims as possible. There is no reason why any American should have no health insurance, or for that matter there is no reason why any American should have health insurance coverage that is inferior to the coverage enjoyed by their elected representatives in Congress. For Congress to fail to provide that same level of health care that they enjoy to the people they are supposed to serve and represent makes a mockery of that very representation.

    I work as a receptionist in an oncology office. Please--this has to pass. Grown men will stand before me and cry when I tell them that they need to be seen again in a week, etc. They don't have the money to pay for this and our losing their homes, and lives that they had before the cancer. People will present me with phony insurance cards, just to be seen in our clinic. I don't blame them--I would do the same thing. I have seen people deny treatment because they don't want to be a financial burden on their families. They go home and die, all for money. Please help us--no one deserves to die like this--we take better care of our animals in this country than our people. (At least our animals we can put to sleep when they begin to suffer).

    Most people don't know a fact about Kidney Transplants & Medicare. If you have Kidney failure & have to go on dialysis & have enough work credits. You are qualify to receive Medicare. If you are lucky enough to get a Kidney transplant. And the transplant is successful for 3 years. Your Medicare is taken away from you. And you have to wait until you are 65 years old, to again receive Medicare. This puts a huge stress on the transplant patient & the rest of the family. To have to worry about getting some kind of health insurance. I heard that kidney transplant patients are the only transplant patients that louse their Medicare. Health care should not be attached to employment. I had a job, I had good health insurance; my position was terminated, I had no insurance and only limited access to available coverage as an individual. I don't mind paying a reasonable amount for reasonable and reliable coverage, but our non-system doesn't provide for that. What a patchwork of plans there are across the country! The time has come for this country to regain it's humanity. It's time for the creed that has come to define this country in the last 50 years or so, of "Increase financial profits in ANY way possible" to finally come to an end. Health care and education are NOT privileges in a civilized society. You cannot have these things be "for profit" enterprises. Greed will always prevail in a free market system, over humanity. That's why government should intervene in such matters of importance to insure that the "right thing" is done. The right thing is to pass HR 676 now and let Americans be able to hold their heads high once again. In 2001 I was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer. After finding this out, I found out that my husband had let our health insurance lapse because we didn't have the money, and I had just lost my job. I started my hunt for help. I made hundreds of phone calls, and got shuffled from one place to the next. I repeatedly went to doctors to be told it looked bad and it was going to be expensive. I repeatedly went to DHS for help, but they said my husband made barely over the limit for them to help me. We were scraping from one paycheck to the next with NO savings. Finally, I asked one of the DHS workers, "What will I have to do before you can help me, die?" She paused...and said, "Yes." So, with my hemoglogin at 3, with no iron stores, I started a job hunt, in order to get health insurance. This whole ordeal started in January, and I went to work in May, 2001. By the time I found the doctor who was to do the surgery, I was passing out in the bathroom at work, waking up in a pool of blood, and SOOOO much more. The doctor told me that I would have to wait for 30 days for the Insurance Company to cover the operation. In September of 2001, I finally got my surgery...Thank God! What is better is that NOW I don't have cancer! But for my government to put me OR ANY OTHER CITIZEN through that is CRIMINALLY NEGLIGENT and no less!!! And don't think it was just a local thing in Phoenix, Arizona. I called Washington, D.C. many times, and wrote all kinds of people. I was very proud when Hillary Clinton wrote me back a very sweet, supportive letter. I wish she had gotten the nomination, but I know Mr. Obama has a lot of good ideas, too. I pray we don't have more of the same! I'm 52 now, and I am not entering my senior years with blinders on. I know my health care needs will escalate, and I want my tax dollars to go towards something that will actually benefit ME and my family...here in our OWN country!!! Can't finish this letter, because I have to go back to WORK for $12.50 an hour and no insurance...something people in Washington need to learn about.

    I have worked as the Director of Social Services in a Number of Long Term facilities and have been outraged by the lack of qualified personnel caring for our elderly,not just the CNA's but also the physicians.Most of the MD's were near geriatric age themselves. Medicaid only paid these Doc's the most minimal ($11.00) to see patients- and would only pay them for 1 visit a month! This is the most compromised, fragile group requiring the most highly skilled and attentive professional care. Yet due to the lack of reimbursement, most new MD's sought specialities in far more lucrative areas! Not to mention the other factor of exorbinant malpractice Insurance costs which also detered these new MD's from persueing areas like Ob-Gyn and pediatrics. As a Social workers given the responsilbity to assure quality of life for these seniors I was often disgusted with the replacement time requirments for such necessary adaptive devices as hearing aids and eyeglasses- Medicaid would only allow new devices every few year- regardless of loss, damage or ineffectiveness. A disgrace to our National Image. Many Seniiors were Conned out of their Medicare coverage by HMO's in the '90's.These Insurance Co's claimed better services, they Lied. I fought more with thee coverages for basic needs, which under Medicare would ahve been easily granted.These insurance co's 'Gatekeepers' barred even essential services like PT,OT and SLP,which serverely limited the patients ability to return to the highest level of functioning- thus leavbing many to remain in LTC, when they ccould have been given the opportunity to reach their fullest recovery potential if they had remained on Medicare. Privatization, and Profiteering , in this industry has proven it is unable to provide a higherlevel of care and has in many cases proved to be detrimental to the citizens. Most healthcare workers know exactly What has been sucking the Medicare system dry..it is not the incease in demographics, it is the profiteering middlemen who have infiltrated the Federal funded system. End Private for Profit Healthcare Insurance- they have failed with their dangerous and reckless 'cost cutting' methods.

    I am only 20 years of age. I didn't realize how big of problem this was before I seen the movie, I didn't quite grasp the horrible things we attribute to these Insurance companies who "have our backs." I fully came to realize this through my Grandmother, a diabetic struggling to pay all of her bills as well as her medication on her salary and unrealistic Social Security check she gets from the passing of my Grandfather. After seeing the movie, I became even more aware of how many patients/residents I will never meet simply because their insurance company denied them the RIGHT to live comfortably. I am merely an Certified Nursing Assistant with one year of experience, in that year (at Long Term Health Care Facilities) I was told excruciatingly disgusting stories (from the residents themselves) about the 'clauses' in insurance companies plans. I am not only saddened by this, but feel a chill run up my spine when I wonder..."What did MEDICARE turn me or my younger sister down for when my mother was in school to become -Registered NURSE- when we were on food stamps and other government assistance".......... Let's remember who works for who and vote, speak, write and take our power back. I'm so tired of allowing my tax dollars to be spent on death and destruction for another war for greed. For those running for office, Let it be known that I, a voting American, choose to vote to support life through health care for ALL.

    It's out of hand. I can afford to buy insurance but the laws are rigged to favor the insurers and as such I am denied coverage because I have needed some medical attention from years of physical activity. What a joke.

    The most powerful nation on earth and its citizens are dying from lack of proper healthcare. It is a shame! Canada, France, Costa Rica and Cuba to name a few nations, run a superior health care program for their citizens. Illness should not be a profit source for greedy HMOs, PI lawyers and doctors. We are falling apart as a nation from within, time to stop the insanity of it all.

    I have a wife that needs a MRI and their is no way we can afford that. I am a full time college student. And we have a 9 month old son to take care of. Her leg puts her in so much pain that she can't even use crutches to walk. She cries all the time because of the pain. She just started a new job and couldn't even work her first day because of her leg and probably going to lose her job because of it. We went to the doctor and he told us that the knee was to swollen to know what was the problem. So now my wife has to deal with this pain until we can afford an mri and from what I have seen we are looking over 1,000 dollars but with our income we can't even afford that. We have looked for help and have recieved none. The sad part is this is supposed to be american and yet sick people die everyday because of someone else's greed. Make's me sick to my stomache. My wife and I try the best we can to take care of our son, ya our son gets great coverage but what about us. It is our son going to be like if he loses a parent. Thanks government.

    (About the Insurance companies and other GREEDY Americans)Great, you are smart enough to make money off of scams and good people. But your short term success has cost the future of this country long term peril.

    Our government cares for the $$$ brought on by the drug/"healthcare" industry not about the people who make this country much less our health. Greedy slimeballs. Let's take a stand, make a difference and be duped no more. Thanks to Mike Moore for bringing the truth to the people.

    It's both sad and disgusting that our representatives are doing such a poor job of representing the people. These days it seems more like they're in the business of keeping their jobs....maybe so they can keep their own health insurance?! Start representing the people, not just the corporations...please.

    Thank you Michael Moore! Americans need to stand up for themselves & demand change! Our country and many of its people only care about money and themselves. People need to unite & care for one another! This inhuman, greedy selfishness must end! I believe the way our country is has rubbed off on the people. My mother just got outraged when I mentioned that I watched Michael Moore's Sicko & told her how great it was. She said it's not true etc. She wouldn't even listen to me. These are the people that need to be reached somehow.

    I am tired of the cruel irony of America and it's lack of a health care system. I believe in capitalism when it comes to luxuries and things we don't need, such as cars, clothes, home decor, entertainment, etc. But necessities like health insurance/care should not be commodities profited on by capitalists with only the goal of money-making. Why is "socialized medicine" a bad word? We have socialized roads, libraries, schools, police and fire departments. Private health insurance is an enemy to the American public. Earn corporate profits doing something where millions of lives are not at stake.

    I just watched Sicko for the first time and am extremely outraged. I came to realize I knew so little about how incredibly inhumane our health care system is in America. Our government should be ashamed. As a country, the people with power who have the ability to do right by their country instead act selfish and greedy. My husband and I are seriously planning on moving to another country (France and UK seem like pretty good alternatives) for the sole purpose of obtaining better health care. We are fortunate not to [currently] have any serious medical conditions, and are covered by insurance; however, we cannot afford to pay our bills even with insurance. I hope that more people watch Sicko and come to a realization, that all these people who have already signed the petition, that something DRASTICALLY needs to be done. ***Mike Moore, I applaud you in having the courage, knowledge an decency to expose and illustrate such an important issue that has caused so much sadness and pain to the people in America.***

    Sicko is a work of art - you tell it like it is, and I'm 150% behind HR-676. Just don't call it Medicare - that has such a "negative stigma" attached to it. Incentivize physicians to get patients healthier as in the UK...the healthier their patients become, the more money they can make....
    Karen O'DonnellNC
    Please work it out - there are many organizations that are actively working on health care reform, but it can only be accomplished by our legislators.I ask on behalf of Emergency Room Nurses and patients, please sit down at the table with all the key stakeholders and work it out.
